Elementary Explorers welcomes all 3rd through 5th grade students. This is not your parents’ Sunday School!!  In Elementary Explorers, students are introduced not only to foundational bible stories and Christian concepts, but also are given time and an opportunity to respond to each lesson through the choice of several interactive stations: puzzling and pondering, creative art, prayers for the world, liturgical learning, praying the labyrinth and more.  

The Elementary Explorers class combines didactic learning with meditative reflection and basic training in spiritual practices.  During the year students learn about: the books of the Bible, the church year, sanctuary furniture, and several forms of prayer.  Our primary curriculum published by the Upper Room is called, The Way of the Child (www.companionsinchrist.org/WOC).  This unique curriculum leads students into a deeper relationship with God through Jesus Christ. It instills in students spiritual practices to form lifelong habits, encourages students to respond to spiritual insights, grow in the facility with the Bible, and provides a support and safe experience of Christian community.

Elementary Explorers continues to build on the excellent foundation begun in Little Lambs (2’ & 3’s), and Godly Play (4’s thru 2nd grade).  The Way of the Child emphasizes a specially prepared worship environment and Biblical storytelling.  Students’ responses to the Word of God are broadened and deepened to include spiritual practices, guided meditation, and contemplative worship.  This program allows each Elementary Explorer to benefit from the great wealth of talent and experience we are blessed with among the leaders and people of God who call themselves Cherry Log Christian Church.
