Cherry Log Christian (DOC) Church Bell Choir
The Bell Choir is under the direction of Bob Clarke. Rehearsals are held in the sanctuary on Thursday evenings at 5:00. The Bell Choir rings at least once a month and for other special occasions. Anyone interested in ringing should contact Bob Clarke (706/632-0113) or see Richard Lumpkin, our Minister of Music.
History
The three octave set of Malmark hand bells were a gift to the church from Tom and Judy Long. He was still living at the time they came. He heard them ring at least one time before his death in 2007. They have greatly enhanced our ability to contribute to worship services more comprehensively.
Per Judy's request, the brass plates on the three bell boxes reads, "Given to the Glory of God and in honor of Bob and Ida-Anne Clarke, December, 2006, Cherry Log Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)."
On the first Sunday the bells rang, Judy was given the honor to toll the hour. Since their dedication, the bells have been rung for monthly services and also upon other occasions as requested. Sometimes they are rung in conjunction with the hand chime bells, depending on the music notation for performance.
On November 2, 2009, we received the 4th octave of Malmark hand bells given in honor of the music program at Cherry Log Christian Church by Jillayn Wolleat and Pamela Young. This very much appreciated gift enables the hand bell choirs to involve more people. It also offers the opportunity of enlarging the hand bell music library with more challenging music.
